Tour Description

Salona & Trogir is a three to five hour private tour combining comfortable vehicle transport and guided walking tours, allowing visitors to explore two of the most historically important sites in central Dalmatia. The tour begins with a short drive from Split to the town of Solin, where guests explore the archaeological remains of Salona, once the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and one of the most important cities on the eastern Adriatic coast. The walking tour begins at Manastirine, one of the most significant early Christian cemeteries in the region and the site where Saint Domnius was originally buried. From there the tour continues to Tusculum and the Episcopal Center, where visitors learn about the development of the early Christian church and the role Salona played as a major religious center during Late Antiquity. The route then leads to the Roman Theatre and the Amphitheater, where the guide explains the urban structure of the city, its public entertainment spaces, and the daily life of the inhabitants of this important Roman provincial capital. After exploring Salona, the tour continues with a scenic drive along the Dalmatian coast to the historic town of Trogir, whose beautifully preserved medieval center is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walking tour begins at the Northern City Gate with its statue of a local saint and continues through narrow stone streets toward the square in front of the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. Visitors admire the famous Romanesque portal created by Master Radovan before entering the cathedral to explore its interior, including the Chapel of St. John of Trogir and the cathedral treasury. The walk then continues across the main square with the city loggia and the nearby Church of St. Barbara, followed by a visit to the Benedictine monastery if it is open to visitors. The tour concludes near the Sea Gate along the waterfront promenade and ends at the impressive Kamerlengo Fortress, offering beautiful views of the harbor and surrounding islands. This private tour provides a rich combination of Roman archaeology and medieval urban heritage, allowing visitors to experience two of Dalmatia's most remarkable historic sites in a single day.
